OUR CONCEPT FOR CIRCULAR ECONOMY

Biochar Research & Development Lab

Biochar operates at the microbial level and therefore fine-tuning and refining the product is critical for success. We facilitate tests for optimising processes for capturing the most value out of biomass waste resources that our clients wish to utilise. […]

A MESSAGE FROM OUR CEO

Biochar Is A Key Element For A Sustainable Livelihood

The pressure on our planets limited resources is rapidly increasing. Profits are at risk through supply chain disruption, reputational and shareholder risk, rising insurance costs and crop yield decline. Personally, I am a believer in the capacity of systematic change of human behaviour and society. […]

APPLICATIONS

Applications for Biochar

BIOCHAR holds big promise for combating climate change. It is a solid material obtained from the carbonisation of biomass.

Activated Carbon Filter

Activated biochar is used as a carbon filter removing pesticides, organic solvents, sulphur, free chlorine, chloramide, chlorine dioxide and phenols.
Such filters have a very large application field in waterworks, waste water treatment, industry, breweries and anaerobic digestion plants.

Uses In The Building Sector

Biochar Mud Plaster

Soil Remediation

Biochar is designed to adsorb heavy metals in such a way that it cannot be absorbed by plants anymore.

Soil Conditioner

  • Carbon Fertiliser
  • Compost
  • Substitute for peat in potting soil
  • Plant protection
  • Compensatory fertiliser for trace elements

Manure Treatment

Biochar acts as a sponch for nutriants and minerals and should therefore be used whereever a runoff of nutrients should be prevented, such as:

  • Litter additive
  • Manure treatment
  • Manure composting
  • Water treatment of fish farming

Animal Fodder

Active Carbon is still a well known treatment for digestion problems as it adsorbs toxics and prevents diarrhea. This prophylactic treatment improves health of the animal, reduces the need of antibiotics and increases food efficiency. Additionally, methane production by cattle can be reduced significantly. This makes the use of biochar in animal fodder a very strong tool to mitigate climate change.
Applications:

  • Silage agent
  • Feed additive / supplement

Anaerobic Digestion Plants

Biochar as AD Plant additive improves the performance of the digestor by binding inhibitors. It further acts as a carrier substance in the digestate for ammonium, which avoids loss of nitrogen and thus increases the value of the digestate.

Urban Tree Substrate

Urban trees are under stress due to climate change, high soil compactness due to building development and lack of water acces due to soil coverage. Biochar provides a permeable and stable structure to the soil that is under high pressure, which allows tree routs to breath. The water retention capacity of the biochar improves access to water over longer dry periods.

Wellness

  • Filling for mattresses
  • Filling for pillows.

Textiles

  • Fabric additive for functional “underwear”
  • Thermal insulation for functional clothing
  • Deodorant for shoe soles

Other Uses

  • Exhaust filters: Controlling emissions and Room air filters
  • Industrial Materials: Carbon Fibres
  • Electronics: Semiconductors and Batteries
  • Metallurgy: Metal reduction
  • Cosmetics: Soaps, Skin-cream, Therapeutic bath additives
  • Energy production: Substitute for lignite
  • Medicines: Detoxification, Carrier for active pharmaceutical ingredients)
